We headed into the Alsace Region of France! What a great idea! Did I mention that the Alsace is famous for its white wine? That means all of the villages are tucked in and around mountains covered with gorgeous vineyards. Eat your heart out Sonoma!
We had a great time in Kayserberg (http://www.planetware.com/france/kaysersberg-f-a-kay.htm). It was a charming little city with beautiful houses and cobblestone streets and wonderful cafes! We went straight to the tourist center and got a map. Then, we got crepes. Have I mentioned how nice it is to travel with Lauren?? We tried to hike up to a castle nestled amongst the grape vines and vineyards. We had to turn around when we hit stairs that were just too daunting for me and the Bob Stroller. So, we walked around the village and enjoyed just checking out the beauty of the region.
We had a long lunch at a little cafe where we indulged our craving for tart flambé. WOW! Joel feel in love with the waitress, who he watched with goggle eyes. Lauren and I feel in love with the food and coffee! Yummy! We both decided that it was stupid of Ross and me to live in Switzerland when tart flambé is so close and delicious.
We then, headed to a wine shop to purchase loads of the white wines of the Alsace region. Lauren channeled her inner Nancy Drew to find the owner of the wine shop. The door was unlocked, but where was the proprietor? It turns out that he was out vacuuming his car! Never the less, we got his attention and he assured us that he was giving us the best deal in the region. I believe him!
After Kayserberg, we drove to the charming town of Riquewhihr. Unfortunately, Joel fell asleep on the drive so we could not get out of the car. Oh, well, another time.
That night, my neighbor Michaela came over and we had a girl’s night. Somehow, between the three of us, we drank four bottles of wine? It was weird, and I am pretty sure that the garden gnomes helped. At some point in the night, Lauren and I decided to buy tickets to Budapest. However, reason stepped in the form of Ross coming home from Boys Night. While he agreed that the tickets were a great price and it sounded like a fun trip, he said that perhaps it would not be so much fun to leave the next day. It turns out, he was right!
